Perry has the father of actors Laurie Metcalf, and Jeff Perry. In the ABC sitcom Roseanne (in flashback) Her mother portrayed Jackie Harris in two of Perry's early TV appearances. The actress was not permitted to perform from the time she reached the age of adulthood because they were afraid of the pressure it would bring. Perry was shy in high-school and was not a performer. Her first acting experience was in the year 2000 at Northwestern University to gain friends upon her transfer to the university from Boston University. Perry started her acting career in New York after graduation, getting small roles on Law & Order: Criminal Intent. But homesickness made Perry return to California and find work as a theatre actress. Her mother and she appeared on Broadway together with her in The Other Place, in 2013. Her father was also in the production. Kevin McKidd and Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize winning drama Anna Christie in 2015 with the Odyssey Theatre Ensemble, West Los Angeles. Perry played a role in 9 episodes of The Family, an ABC film The Family in 2016. In 2017, she had her own recurring part on the ABC drama about politics Scandal featuring her father. In the same year, she played a young version of Mary Cooper on Young Sheldon (a CBS spinoff The Big Bang Theory), portraying her mother in a younger version. The role was given by audition in spite of the fact that she is a relative to the role.
